A family of smooth and interpolatory basis functions for parametric curve and surface representation

چکیده
Interpolatory basis functions are helpful to specify parametric curves or surfaces that can be modified by simple user-interaction. Their main advantage is a characterization of the object by a set of control points that lie on the shape itself (i.e., curve or surface). In this paper, we characterize a new family of compactly supported piecewise-exponential basis functions that are smooth and satisfy the interpolation property. They can be seen as a generalization and extension of the Keys interpolation kernel using cardinal exponential B-splines. The proposed interpolators can be designed to reproduce trigonometric, hyperbolic, and polynomial functions or combinations of them. We illustrate the construction and give concrete examples on how to use such functions to construct parametric curves and surfaces. © 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Construction of a surface pencil with a common special surface curve
In this study, we introduce a new type of surface curves called $D$-type curve. This curve is defined by the property that the unit Darboux vector $vec{W}_{0} $ of a surface curve $vec{r}(s)$ and unit surface normal $vec{n} $ along the curve $vec{r}(s)$ satisfy the condition $leftlangle vec{n} ,vec{W}_{0} rightrangle =text{constant}$. We point out that a $D$-type curve is a geodesic curve or an...
متن کاملCurve and surface reconstruction based on a set of improved interpolatory basis functions
To avoid the potential distortion problem in curve and surface design, a set of improved basis functions is introduced to construct interpolatory curves and surfaces passing through given data points. Compared with the basis functions used in Zhang and Ma (2011) [33], the accuracy of the partition of unity of the improved basis functions exceeds the computation limit of the floating-point in co...

Soil water characteristic curve shows the relationship between soil water content and matric suction, which has an important role in water movement in the soil. The measurement of this curve is expensive and time-consuming in laboratory therefore, many methods have been proposed for its estimation including pedotransfer functions. By using the pedotransfer functions, soil water characteristic c...
متن کاملGeneralization of general helices and slant helices
In this work, we use the formal definition of $k$-slant helix cite{ali2} to obtain the intrinsic equations as well as the position vector for emph{slant-slant helices} which a generalization of emph{general helices} and emph{slant helices}. Also, we present some characterizations theorems for $k$-slant helices and derived, in general form, the intrinsic equations for such curves. Thereafter, fr...
متن کاملPlanelet Transform: A New Geometrical Wavelet for Compression of Kinect-like Depth Images
With the advent of cheap indoor RGB-D sensors, proper representation of piecewise planar depth images is crucial toward an effective compression method. Although there exist geometrical wavelets for optimal representation of piecewise constant and piecewise linear images (i.e. wedgelets and platelets), an adaptation to piecewise linear fractional functions which correspond to depth variation ov...
